The Fan Carpet Chats To...

Singer, songwriter, author and acting sensation Carrie Hope Fletcher is the latest creative force to join the @GetItRight campaign, which promotes respect for the value of creativity in the UK and challenges people to think about the enormous commitment and amount of time it takes to create content.

Carrie Hope Fletcher and @GetItRight hopes to dramatically reduce piracy by engaging people around their love of content whilst encouraging them to invest in and source it from the huge array of legal sites now available. How did you first get started with your career?

I started acting when I was 5, my first job being a Honey Nut Cheerios commercial that is still floating around out there somewhere! I’ve been acting through my entire life and there’s never been any other question of what I wanted to do when I was older. When I did grow up, I left school after my GCSE’s to start writing a musical and the producer of said musical saw potential in me as an actress and put me forward to various different agents, one of whom, finally said yes! I’ll be forever grateful to that producer!

What was it about the Get It Right campaign that enticed you to get involved?

The whole campaign is about supporting and celebrating creativity! What’s not to love! It hopes to reduce piracy by encouraging people to think about the enormous time and commitment it takes to create content that we love to watch, read, listen to and play, and to get it from a genuine site. That way, the content we love can continue to be produced. It took me over 330 hours to finish my book ‘On the Other Side’ and it’s important to get that from a genuine source and recognise the hard work that goes into creating content.

You provide your voice to Trolls, can you talk about that experience?

I did! I was approached by DreamWorks and Twentieth Century Fox to be the voice of Cookie the Troll in their new movie Trolls. It’s just two lines but it was such a wonderful and fun thing to be a part of.

How does your experience with Trolls compare to your ongoing work in Musical Theatre?

The main difference between theatre and most other forms of entertainment is that with theatre, you only get one chance to get it right! With TV and film, you get a few go’s if it doesn’t quite go according to plan on the first try!

You recently rejoined the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, how has that been for you?

Yes, I rejoined the tour of Chitty for a six month stint that ended October 2nd and it was magical to be back in a show I was in as a child! The show means so much to me and to be flying about in that car again was a dream come true!

You’re also a writer, is there anything you can’t do! What can you tell us about your forthcoming books?

Maths! I can’t do maths! I am currently working on another novel but it’s all top secret at the moment! There’s lots to be revealed in the coming months!

Your YouTube channels are going incredibly well, is there anything in particular that you are working on for the Channels and your ever growing audience?

The wonderful thing about my YouTube channel is that it runs alongside my acting and writing career. YouTube was a hobby that went amazingly, accidentally right and I’m so grateful I’ve managed to grow a brilliant community of like-minded, caring and considerate people who have been so supportive over the years. Whenever something big happens in my professional career, I turn to YouTube to share that news. Also, YouTube is my own personal creative outlet so whilst I’m telling other people’s stories in shows, I get to tell my own through YouTube.

Fandoms are a big part of YouTube community, who would you say you are a fan of?

I’m a huge fan of Louse Peatland (Sprinkle of Glitter), Tyler Oakley and Melanie Murphy. All brilliant strong, individuals with so much talent and kindness to share with the world.
