Take Mechanic: Resurrection Home this December – From John Travolta to Jason Statham: BALD ACTION HEROES

07 December 2016

According to research, bald men have higher levels of testosterone – which might explain why so many of the biggest box office action stars are, how shall we say, a little thin on top.

Jason Statham, star of the explosive sequel Mechanic: Resurrection, has never been ashamed of his hair free pate. No Hollywood wigs for him (apart from in the Guy Richie flop Revolver), he has proudly shown off his solar sex panel, safe in the knowledge that apparently, women find bald men very attractive, and for an action hero, it’s very handy, as the bad guys have nothing to pull in fight.

Along with Statham, here are the best of the follicly challenged action stars, whose scalps might not raise much hair, but whose films certainly do...

Jason Statham
As super assassin Arthur Bishop in Mechanic: Resurrection, Statham shows that if you’re the world’s number one assassin, having a full head of hair would only be a hindrance. For example, if you’re hanging by suction pads off the underside of a glass pool jutting out from the top of a skyscraper, and have a job killing one of the world’s nastiest villains by causing the glass to crack – the last thing you need is a stray lock of hair blowing in your face when your dangling 60 stories above the pavement.

Yul Brynner
Brynner, one of the biggest box office stars of the Sixties, was one of the first Hollywood actors to embrace full above the eyebrows nudity. Famous for being one of the gunslingers in the western classic The Magnificent Seven, although his bald head became a trademark, watching him was like watching a foreign film and quickly forgetting you are reading subtitles. He’s not bald. He’s just very, very cool.

Bruce Willis
It took a while for the Die Hard star to let go of his locks, but when he did, sporting a very close crop for Pulp Fiction, people wondered what had took him so long. He delivered arguably his greatest ever performance as the boxer Butch, whose simple plan to retrieve a watch ends up with some unspeakable acts in the basement of a pawn shop.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Proof, if proof is needed, that bald is best. The Rock, star of the Fast & Furious megahits, is the highest paid actor on the planet, and one of the biggest grossing stars around. And his head is as smooth as his paycheck is big. Actors, if you’ve still got hair on your head, get rid of it, and start to see success come your way.

Vin Diesel
The Rock’s Furious co-star Diesel is coming up fast behind him as one of the most popular action stars of the moment. Diesel has made a ton of money from the Furious franchise, and will be making a ton more from Fast 8,9 and 10 and the new xXx film. And Diesel’s having the last laugh because he doesn’t have to spend ANY of that cash on combs, shampoo or styling gel.

John Travolta
Although Travolta has a full, luxuriant head of hair, he wasn’t above trying out the bald look for an action film back in 2010, From Paris With Love. It didn’t quite kick start an action hero franchise for Travolta, but it’s a pretty wild ride, and if Travolta’s hair does all fall out down the line maybe he can go back to the character, whacked out US operative Charlie Wax. Presumably not as in hair wax.
