Picturehouse Entertainment Announce UK Release Date of August 30 for Stunning Reggae Documentary INNA DE YARD

15 May 2019

Inna De Yard is a joyous, vibrant film set against the backdrop of the lush green mountains of Jamaica in which a superstar group of reggae legends gather to record a new album of infectious hits in an unplugged style that harks back to their roots. The musicians include Ken Boothe, Winston McAnuff, Kiddus I, Cedric Myton and Judy Mowatt whose iconic songs capture the poetry and passion of their homeland.

Directed by Peter Webber (Girl With A Pearl Earring), the film is studded with intimate acoustic versions of classic tracks (such as Ken Boothe's Everything I Own) and dazzling live performances from their unforgettable all-star concert in Paris.

With the soul of Amazing Grace and the narrative intrigue of Searching For Sugarman, Inna De Yard is the Buena Vista Social Club for reggae. This landmark film recounts the history and continuing cultural importance of reggae music and paints an unforgettable portrait of these pioneering artists and their success, happiness and heartache during a lifetime immersed in this colossally influential music scene.

Following its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it received rave reviews, Inna De Yard will have its UK premiere as the Closing Night Film at this year’s annual summer in the city highlight Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House on Wednesday 21 August.

Over the course of a fortnight, the courtyard of the historic Somerset House welcomes the best of cinema to London’s largest, most prestigious alfresco screen. Expertly curated by Film4 and Somerset House, the 2019 line-up boasts some of the most entertaining and innovative films of our times. Settled under the starry night sky on late summer evenings, film lovers can unite in the beautiful London landmark to share in the emotion of these much-loved movies and hear first-hand from some of the talents behind them.

Following its UK premiere at Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House, the film will then release in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 30 August.

Director, Peter Webber commented "Inna de Yard is a celebration of music, a balmy summer feel-good movie about a group of veteran musicians gathering together to make music in the “yard” of a house in the hills above Kingston. They invited a handful of younger musicians to collaborate with them making an acoustic album in this down home setting. These celebrated men and women invited me into their lives and revealed their tales of struggle and triumph over adversity as I travelled around Jamaica in search of the roots of reggae music. I’ve been a reggae fan since my teenage years growing up in West London as a teenage punk rocker, and the chance to meet some of my childhood heroes and discover the true stories behind their most celebrated songs was a dream come true."

Clare Binns, Joint MD of Picturehouse Entertainment added "A story of music, friendship and collaboration, this vibrant film beautifully captures the heart of Jamaica and the roots of reggae. Peter Webber's cinematic telling of the group's incredible and personal adventures will be a treat for anyone who loves a feel-good story with soul."

INNA DE YARD will be released in cinemas across UK & Ireland on August 30
