Jurassic Park, Goldeneye, Alien, The Chronicles of Riddick + The Lord of the Rings: 5 Movies Which Went On To Make The Best Games

19 March 2018

The majority of people you ask will have watched loads of movies in their lifetime and be able to recall some of their favourites. What has often happened following a movie release, is that it then generates leads to a demand for more products and services with some connection to the specific movie. This usually results in sequels being recorded and released, but movies have also gone on to inspire other areas of entertainment, one of them being games.

Games allow people to actually experience what they saw in the film and play with or alongside the characters too. In fact, several games based on movies have gone to be a huge success. So which movies have been used to make great games over the years?

Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park first hit our screens way back in 1993 and since then has gone on to be one of the most successful movie franchise of all time. It’s based around the island Isla Nebular and a park containing cloned dinosaurs. The premise certainly made great foundations for a video game to be produced and that it was. In fact in 1993 we saw Jurassic Park released on a whole host of games consoles including the Game Boy, SNES and Mega Drive and it was a hit on PC too. Since ’93 there have been more hit films from the franchise, with more great games following them. We’ve even seen great slots games based on the franchise too, and these have been a massive hit. This has been borne out by the number of online casino brands that have the online slot game. In fact, some operators such as PartyCasino Slots actually have two versions of the game, Jurassic Park and Jurassic World to enjoy.

Goldeneye
The Goldeneye film was released really in an era of uncertainty when it came to James Bond. Pierce Brosnan had just taken over as 007, but fans were finding the movies a bit of a hit and miss at times. However, Goldeneye has been one that has certainly proved to be a hit at the box office, and it can be argued that it was even a bigger hit as a video game. Goldeneye, on the N64, is an all-time classic and still mentioned as one of the best games ever released still to this day. The game had it all in the sense that the action was great, the storyline was strong and it introduced the gaming world to first person shooters too.

Alien
Alien is a sci-fi horror franchise that really took the world by storm in the late 1970s in a series that focused on Ellen Ripley, a warrant officer, and her battle with “the Alien.” The film also showed how David 8 went about trying to create the extra-terrestrial life-form too. Again this was a movie which had everything to port it over to the world of video and arcade games. There were releases on the Atari, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad based on the 1979 move and like Jurassic Park, there have been further Alien films release and further games too.

The Chronicles of Riddick
The Chronicles of Riddick is a film franchise that has enjoyed great success over the years. It really focuses on Riddick who is not your conventional hero and the fictional universe of the 28th century. The series itself has inspired some great video games with the pick of the bunch being Escape From Butcher Bay. It was released onto both Xbox and PC and went down in history as one of the best Xbox games of all time. The game itself was based on the Riddick series, but acted as a prequel to Pitch Black.

The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings film series has gone down in history as one of the finest ever to hit the screens. Each release was a huge box office hit as they focused on the fictional world of Middle-Earth, following the journey of Frodo Baggins as he and the Fellowship set out to destroy the One Ring. The Lord of the Rings films led to some great games being produced but the best is possibly The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It was released in 2003 with both single player and multiplayer modes on every platform and was a huge hit with gamers young and old.
