29 January 2019

Film director Nadine Labaki is pictured with UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett at a UNHCR screening of her film Capernaum in London.

The film which opens across the UK on February 22 has received an Oscar nomination as Best Foreign Language Film, on top of the Jury Prize at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. Capernaum is set in Beirut and tells the courageous and inspirational story of a 12-year-old boy who sues his parents for bringing him into a world of poverty. The role is played by Zain Al-Rafeea, a Syrian refugee.
