"You will not see a funnier film this year – guaranteed"

Recently, I have been feeling let down a lot by Hollywood.  This year, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen a trailer for a film, got ridiculously excited, roped all my friends into going to see it, only to leave the cinema with an awful lot of egg on my face when it turns out to be utter garbage, and the only bits worth seeing were the 3 minutes in the trailer.  I tend to do this a lot, and it was with scepticism that my friends looked at me when I showed them the trailer for ‘Due Date’.  “This is going to be amazing”, I said.  “We’ve heard that before”, they said, and it was with a certain amount of trepidation that I entered the cinema last week for the screening, yet within 30 seconds of the film starting, I knew that I wasn’t going to be disappointed.

In reality, I should have had more confidence with ‘Due Date’ than any of my other predictions.  The director Todd Phillips has serious comic history – ‘Road Trip’, ‘Old School’ and ‘The Hangover’ rank in my top 5 comedies ever.  When you couple this with the sublime acting talents of messrs Downey, Jr. and Galifianakis, it becomes more and more obvious that this movie was never going to disappoint.

The film follows Peter Highman (Downey, Jr.) who’s only concern is to get back to L.A. in order to see the birth of his first child.  However, thanks to unintentional interference from Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis), Highman seems destined never to arrive.  Along the way, we are treated to some of the finest comedy moments to ever hit the big screen.  If you thought the trailer was funny, you seriously haven’t seen anything yet!  Forget bonfire night – if there’s one thing you do in November, make sure it’s to watch ‘Due Date’.
