SYNOPSIS

BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL is the 100th project from legendary director Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi The Killer, 13 Assassins) it is based on the hugely popular manga by Hiroaki Samura and produced by the UK’s Jeremy Thomas (Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The Last Emperor, High-Rise). The film stars Takuya Kimura (an icon in Japan who as well as countless films and TV shows was in a much loved boy band, SMAP), Hana Sugisaki (Her Love Boils Bathwater) and Sota Fukushi (Amachan, As the Gods will say).

Manji, a highly skilled samurai, becomes cursed with immortality after a legendary battle. Haunted by the brutal murder of his sister, Manji knows that only fighting evil will regain his soul. He promises to help a young girl named Rin avenge her parents, who were killed by a group of master swordsmen led by ruthless warrior Anotsu. The mission will change Manji in ways he could never imagine…

Jeremy Thomas is a renowned international producer who has made films such as Nagisa Oshima’s Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, Takeshi Kitano’s Brother and Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor, and acted as producer on Blade of the Immortal. This is his third collaboration with Miike, after 13 Assassins and Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai.
