Sexual Dreams Do Come True for 80% of Women According to a New Study

05 May 2015

• Three-quarters of couples have been inspired by a film or TV show to try something new sexually

• Two-thirds of women have played out a fantasy they had in an erotic dream

• Most popular sex fantasy is having sex in a public place

• Results revealed in a new survey of 1,300 people by Lovehoney for the new comedy, A Funny Kind of Love, which is released in cinemas on Friday (May 8)

Eight out of ten women have lived out their favourite sexual fantasy, according to a new study. It found that 81% of women and 77% of men had spiced up their sex lives by turning their personal fantasies into reality.

Three-quarters of couples (78%) have been inspired to try something new sexually by something they have seen in a film or TV. A further 75% of women and 54% of men have lived out a sexual fantasy they have discovered in a book and 68% of women and 63% of men have played out a fantasy they had in an erotic dream.

One popular fantasy is imagining having sex with a friend's lover; six out of ten men (59%) and 34% of women have had this fantasy.

The results are revealed in a new survey of 1,300 people by the UK's biggest online sex toy firm Lovehoney. It looked at our favourite forbidden fantasies to tie in with the release of new relationship comedy, A Funny Kind of Love, which will be in cinemas from Friday (May 8).

The survey found that 91% of us have sexual fantasies or fetishes. The most popular sexual fantasy is having sex in a public place, chosen by 75% of couples, followed by tying up or being tied up (72%), domination and submission (58%), making a sex tape (48%) and sex on a plane (25%).

The most popular sexual fetish was bondage, chosen by 60% of couples, followed by role playing and dressing up (54%), biting (28%), voyeurism (26%) and rubber and latex (24%).

Half of women (50%) and 45% of men said they were embarrassed by their fantasies, though most would tell their partner about them.

A staggering 97% of those polled reckon fantasies can enhance sexual happiness, but 57% of women and 61% of men say they can also create unrealistic sexual expectations.

Lovehoney co-owner said Richard Longhurst: "It's great news that so many people are turning their sexual fantasies into reality.

"Lots of people are enjoying erotic scenes in books or films and then re-enacting them in the bedroom.

Obviously many of us are a little embarrassed about our sexual fantasies, but it is great that we are still sharing them with partners despite the embarrassment.

We find at Lovehoney that couples who are open about sex enjoy far greater levels of sexual happiness."

A spokesperson from Kaleidoscope Entertainment added “We do hope that people will be inspired by some of the scenes they see in A Funny Kind of Love to get to know their partners better, and maybe try something new!”

A Funny Kind of Love follows the lives of five suburban couples whose sexual fetishes push their relationships to new boundaries. It stars and is directed by Josh Lawson, best known for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
