Netflix acquires international rights to Atul Malhotra’s British comedy AMAR AKBAR & TONY featuring Karen David

The film stars Canadian actresses Karen David and Goldy Notay

A Sikh, a Muslim and an Irish Catholic take stock of their lives in contemporary London in Atul Malhotra’s coming of age comedy drama Amar Akbar & Tony. This landmark independent film is the first western film to feature a turbaned Sikh in the lead.

The title is an homage to a 70’s Bollywood classic and sets the tone for a unique film marrying the storytelling styles of British Independent cinema with that of the Bollywood narrative as Amar Akbar & Tony come of age, cause chaos and fall in love in multicultural London.

This charming, bittersweet and diverse comedy is being distributed internationally by Kino Lorber, a leading label representing the finest Art house and International films.

 

Amar Akbar & Tony’ stars Karen David (Once Upon a Time, Galavant ), Rez Kempton (The Mummy), Laura Aikman (Keith Lemon, The Movie), Martin Delaney (Now You See Me 2), and Sam Vincenti (Da Vinci’s Demons).

The film co-stars, Amrita Acharia (Game of Thrones), Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me) Goldy Notay (Sex and the City 2) and Nina Wadia (Bend It Like Beckham).

Director Atul Malhotra is recognized in the UK for Directing award winning documentary and TV productions. His directing credits include Ross Kemp on Guns, The Big Experiment, The People's Book of Records, Breaking Magic and Cardshark.

Amar Akbar & Tony previously screened at Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI); Indian Film Festival The Hague (IFFTH) and MISAFF Film Festival (Canada).
