Frank Grillo looks menacing as Crossbones on the set of Captain America: Civil War
Whilst Avengers: Age of Ultron is sitting comfortably at the top of the UK Box Office, and with Marvel’s Phase 3 kicking off in July with Ant-Man, Production has started on the eagerly awaited Captain America: Civil War and the first look at Frank Grillo’s Crossbones!
Crossbones aka Brock Rumlow debuted in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier working for S.H.I.E.L.D. alongside Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, however he was later revealed to be a HYDRA Agent, and after the final fight, Rumlow was buried beneath the remains of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Washington D.C. base, however he was later seen rescued from the rubble.
With the character returning for Captain America: Civil War, it was widely assumed that he would be doing so as a full-fledged Crossbones, and judging by the on set photos, he’ll be doing just that as the deranged super-villain.
The photo of Crossbones captures the essence of the classic version of the costume from the comics, it has some minor tweaks and updates with what looks like an ‘X’ scratched into his body armour instead of a drawing of a pair of actual bones on the chest. Also instead of the classic skull mask (complete with teeth over the mouth and lips), he’s wearing a helmet with white paint to symbolise the skull.
The look of Grillo’s Crossbones is awesome and it’s a little more realistic, a little less outlandish, but still plenty intimidating; a good look the antagonist.
Captain America: Civil War opens in cinemas on April 29 2016 and stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Daniel Brühl, William Hurt and Martin Freeman.
