Expendables is old school

30 September 2009

Stallone has promised that his new film will be a throwback to the physical stunt filled action movies of the 80s.

The Expendables, which Stallone writes, directs and stars in, sees him lead a group of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow an evil South American dictator.

The film has got action film fans excited with its casting, which includes Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren. And Stallone has promised that the film will not rely on CGI effects but traditional action stunts.

He told Empire, "What I wanted to do was just try to do something that is a little different. Today, technically, we're incredibly gifted and versatile with CGI, and I wanted to do a film that was more about men, doing things that we did back in the 80s and 90s that was a little bit more mano a mano - actual, physical stunts."

He added, "I guess it's kinda like The Dirty Dozen, or one of those films that comes along every once in a while - like The Magnificent Seven - to try to take that old formula and move it into a modern era. We accomplished it, I'm very, very happy with the film."
