Asa Butterfield named as frontrunner to be Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man

15 May 2015

Following the landmark deal between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures to co produce the next Spider-Man reboot, rumours have been circling about which actor will portray the Friendly Neighbourhood Webslinger, and word is that Asa Butterfield has been chosen as Marvel’s Webhead!

There are various reports doing the rounds that say that the X+Y and Ender's Game actor is the frontrunner  of "approximately five actors" in line to play the iconic Marvel superhero with Deadline and Latino Review are both reporting (with varying degrees of certainty) that Butterfield could have already signed with Sony and Marvel Studios.

However, until we hear from Disney, Marvel or Sony this is very much a rumour and we’ll take this with a pinch of salt.

It is believed that the new friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man will debut in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War, the next instalment in the Captain America franchise.

Butterfield is a great choice, he’s a phenomenal actor and he is age appropriate with what Marvel and Sony are reported to want for the beloved character.

Butterfield will next be seen in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiars alongside Allison Janney next year.
