"''Although this film is predictable, there are enough genuinely hilarious and cute moments to keep you entertained...''"

No Strings Attached is the kind of romantic comedy that does exactly what it says on the tin. The poster gives it away, the title gives it away and the fact that Ashton Kutcher is the male lead, completely and utterly seals this rom coms fate. However I was pleasantly surprised with No Strings Attached, despite the fact nearly every one of Ashton Kuthcer's facial expressions could be predicted and timed, and the fact that he is still essentially Kelso ( I think he's drinking the same eternal youth serum as Demi Moore) the film was actually pretty damn funny.

This was mainly because the very talented Natalie Portman surprised me so much with her comic flare, dead pan comic timing and general all round adorableness, that I forgot I was supposed to be cynical. In fact her performance shocked me more than Black Swan, as we all know Portman can do edgy and serious, but comedy, I did not.

No Strings Attached is the usual formula of boy meets girl years ago, they keep bumping into each other and eventually bump uglies. However this time it's the girl that wants to keep things casual, Portman as a stressed out Doctor just wants Kutcher at her sexual beck and call, which obviously he agrees to, despite the fact that he's clearly in love with her. Cue many intimate and quite realistic sex scenes, game playing and mind games as they try to convince each other and themselves that they're not falling in love.

You can guess the rest, but although this film is predictable, there are enough genuinely hilarious and cute moments to keep you entertained, plus Portman and Kutcher have fantastic chemistry which clearly helps in this sort of genre where the characters are fairly interchangeable. The supporting cast are also really funny, and don't fall into the usual rom com stereotype (sarcastic bloke for the guy's best mate, bitchy/dippy friend for the girl) but come in the form of a bunch of single doctor misfits who have some great, and unexpected one liners, and become almost as important as the leads.

In the end No Strings Attached is funny, and romantic, so yes it does exactly what is says on the tin, and at the end of the day that's all that I expect or need from a rom com. Plus Ashton Kutchers toned derriere makes a cameo worth watching. Enough said. If you're a guy there's Natalie Portman. Enough said.
