"full of action packed hilarity and yet at times is emotionally charged"

For years there has been one clear winner when it came to CGI animated films, Pixar had the edge, both with story telling and shear groundbreaking visuals. That seems to have changed, with the recent animated adventures from DreamWorks it looks as though there could be a new king.

In a refreshing twist on the classic superhero film, Megamind focuses on the villain voiced superbly by Will Ferrell. In a scene reminiscent of the origins of Superman, we are introduced to him as a baby as his home is destroyed and he is sent hurtling towards our planet. However, at the same time, a baby from a neighbouring planet is sent out for the same purpose, and so begins their rivalry.

After an "accident" Metro City is left without a superhero, and Megamind takes charge, but he soon realizes that he is nothing without a hero to fight with, so he creates one with disastrous consequences.

The film is full of action packed hilarity and yet at times is emotionally charged. DreamWorks has achieved a film that is for adults as well as children, however the wordy script, takes the film far more into adult territory and at times the plot is all over the place. However the story is intriguing enough and while there are definite nods to its peers, Megamind stands tall all on its own, and is accompanied by a rocking soundtrack that will delight some of the older audience.

The support cast are brilliant, most notable David Cross as Minion, the extremely funny right hand fish of Ferrell's Megamind, and Jonah Hill as Titen. In short, Megamind is brilliant, a must see and a credit to DreamWorks.
