"at no point did it try to be too clever, and as such hit exactly the right note"

We follow Hancock's journey from despised alcoholic to leather clad, worshiped superhero, all courtesy of PR guru Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and rather begrudgingly by his wife Mary (Charlize Theron).

What really surprised me about this film was its depth. I'm a massive Will Smith fan, so I went into the film really positive - I thought the premise of an alcoholic superhero with an image problem was absolute genius. Sure enough the film provides laughs a plenty - at no point did it try to be too clever, and as such hit exactly the right note. The biggest compliment I can pay the film is that I had NO idea how it was going to end - it's rare that you have an "Oh My God" moment in the cinema, but Hancock, believe it or not, left me stunned - two words - GREAT twist!!

If you're in the market for a superhero film over the weekend - forget your big angry green man and go and watch this instead. You've got the spectacular fights, the laughs, and a strong enough plot to actually make you care what happens in the end.
