"With the added message of the importance of friendship and not being alone too much, Captain Underpants is a triumph from start to finish"

Going into Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, I had no idea about the character or the concept. I’m a big appreciator of DreamWorks Animation SKG, Kevin Hart, Ed Helms and Animation in general, so I was excited to see the film.

Straight off the bat, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is just beautiful to look at, giving it a The Peanuts Movie vibe with the style of Animation, giving a very childlike but sophisticated feel to proceedings.

We are introduced to life long friends George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) as they explain who they are, why they are friends and explain why they are in the Principal’s office again, giving us backgrounds history to the two pranksters.

After they are caught on camera during a Science Exhibition where they pulled off a spectacular prank involving Melvin’s (Jordan Peele) invention, the friends are threatened with being separated by their Principal Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms), they decide to hypnotise the angry Principal.

To their surprise, the hypnosis works, and at first they have a bit of fun making Krupp believe he is a chicken and have him conduct an Orchestra of Whoopee cushions and then get the bright idea to make him believe he is their character Captain Underpants.

When Professor Poopypants (Nick Kroll) gets hired as the Science Teacher at their school, he wants to remove laughter from Children forever, what follows is a very inventive and fast paced film, where the inept Captain Underpants sets out to take down Professor Poopypants with the help of Harold and George.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is a very impressive film, as I said the Animation is beautiful and beyond that, the voice cast is just flawless, it’s a lot of fun, and whilst the majority of the humour is toilet humour, it is aimed at kids and who doesn’t like a good fart joke or the inventive uses of Whoopee cushions.

With the added message of the importance of friendship and not being alone too much, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is a triumph from start to finish.
