Star Wars: The Last Jedi – the follow up to the biggest film of all time at the UK box office – is set to open with over £27.5M. Opening in over 700 sites as the widest cinema release of all time the four day takings make it the biggest opening of the year and the 3rd biggest opening weekend of all time. Saturday’s figures alone came in at £7.6M meaning Disney has the top three in the all-time Saturday box office figures alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens and this year’s Beauty and the Beast.

The film, which has opened to global praise from critics, has taken over $450M worldwide and opened in the US to an estimated $220M making it the second biggest opening of all time in America only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
