THE HURRICANE HEIST Blows Into Cinemas And Is Available On SKY CINEMAS From APRIL 6 – Disaster Films with an Edge
We’re probably all pretty proud of our multitasking skills, but nobody manages to juggle two tasks quite like a disaster movie action hero. We’re not talking about stirring a cup of tea while replying to a text. Nope, these courageous men and women are more likely to be found navigating a space craft while bombing an asteroid or, in case of new film The Hurricane Heist, preventing a $600 million heist in the midst of 155 mph winds. Impressive stuff.
To celebrate the release of The Hurricane Heist in cinemas this Friday we thought we’d look at some of our favourite disaster movies with a difference. The stories where you can expect a whirlwind in both a literal and metaphorical sense…
The Hurricane Heist (Releases April 6th)
From the director of The Fast and the Furious, Hurricane Heist stars Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Maggie Grace (Lost, Taken) and Ryan Kwanten (The Oath, True Blood) as the unlikely trio tasked with preventing the heist of the century as thieves target the U.S .Treasury. If that didn’t sound tricky enough, there’s a Category 5 hurricane approaching. Even on the mildest day, this movie will have you clinging onto your seat.
Twister (1996)
Like your movies with more than just a twist? Buckle up for this epic… With the biggest storm in 50 years set to hit Oklahoma, two rival groups of scientists battle it out to make meteorological history. Add a love triangle into the mix, and you know you can expect more than just explosive weather. Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt bring real emotion to the impressive action.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Director Roland Emmerich (Godzilla, Independence Day and The Patriot) works his magic to bring this tense sci-fi thriller to life. A scientist (Dennis Quaid) sets out to save his son (Jake Gyllenhaal) when global warming plunges the world into a climatic catastrophe. While the special effects and acting are awesome, it’s the subject matter - which feels more and more relevant by the day - that really makes an impact.
Armageddon (1998)
With more stars than you can shake a stick at (deep breath: Bruce Willis Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler, Ben Affleck, Will Patton and Steve Buscemi) and Michael Bay in charge, you know that Armageddon isn’t going to scrimp on drama. After discovering that an mega-sized asteroid is on path to hit Earth, NASA trains up a motley crew of deep core drillers and sends them into space to save the planet.
San Andreas (2015)
If the Fast And The Furious franchise didn’t teach you that Dwayne ’The Rock’ Johnson is the king of vehicle multitasking, San Andreas certainly will. After California's infamous San Andreas fault sets off a magnitude 9 earthquake which causes devastation hits the West Coast of America, search-and-rescue helicopter pilot Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson) travels upcoast to find his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) and daughter (Alexandra Daddario).
Dante’s Peak (1997)
When volcanologist (Pierce Brosnan) arrives at an idyllic American town and discovers that a long dormant volcano, Dante's Peak, is likely to wake up, the local community are skeptical. Only once the nightmare scenario becomes a reality is it discovered that the children of the mayor (Linda Hamilton) have gone up the mountain to rescue their grandmother. A race against the clock ensues.
