The Fan Carpet Chats To…: Someday is not a Day on the Calendar: A Conversation with One to Watch Megan Lockhurst

17 April 2018

Megan Hazel Alice Lockhurst was born and raised in Milton, Ontario Canada. At a young age, she showed a keen interest in the arts and would often be found daydreaming, singing and dancing in the living room when she thought no one was looking. With a huge imagination, Megan's talent took her to the stage where she would end up falling in love with musical theatre and dance.

At the age of 16, Megan decided to try a career in modelling. Her first audition led to a very promising commercial opportunity, however before she could sign the contract the producers decided her height of 5'2 would not quite fit their vision. Devastated by this audition, Megan decided to hang her modelling hat up and stick to singing where she would eventually grab the lead role in the musical Grease, act as lead vocalist for the band She Said, and compose music for up and coming indie films.

Megan loves to travel and has been living in the UK for the last 12 years where she is now vigorously pursuing an acting career. Her focus is Feature films and Television. She enjoys horseback riding, acting, singing, dancing, cooking and shows a promising future within the TV/Film industry.

In our exclusive interview Megan tells The Fan Carpet’s Marc Jason Ali how she got started in the Industry, her dream role and what she has coming up...

If we go back to the beginning, was there a defining moment for you to get into the Film Industry?

I was working towards a career in the music industry and was struggling to find musicians who wanted to commit full time. After several failed attempts to get people together for a simple band practice I decided to call it quits. The next day when I woke up it was like a light coming on in my head. I was going to be an onscreen actress. I’ve been pushing forward ever since!

What can you tell us about your forthcoming film Balloon Animals with Director Rick Roberts and where your character fits into the story?

Without giving to much away, Balloon Animals is a fantastically racy film which ignites passion and flare between strong characters. My character ‘Heather’ is a risk taker who will go to great lengths to get the job done!

What attracts you most to the roles you pursue?

My favourite type of roles to pursue are the ‘grittier, kick ass’ ones. I enjoy becoming someone completely different and I love the challenge that comes along with it.

What is your preferred genre, and do you have any favourite films?

I love anything Horror though also love a good RomCom or Action film. Generally if there’s a strong story line or interesting concept i’m happy to give it a watch. My favourite film of all time is ‘Jurassic Park’

Are there any other aspects of the Film Industry that you would like to pursue?

I’m currently writing a TV series which I’m enjoying the process of, though my real passion lies with acting. Though I don’t have any intentions of pursuing anything further within the industry (as it’s important to dedicate my time to acting) I won’t rule anything out.

You have an eclectic range of credits, are there any genres that you haven’t done yet that you’d like to?

I haven’t had the chance to do a RomCom which I think i’d enjoy and would like to do. Other than that i’m pretty open to all genre’s that come my way.
