‘The Crow’ reboot moving forward

02 June 2010

There hasn't been much said about the proposed 'The Crow' reboot, it' still being directed by Stephen Norrington who is a director often brimming with great ideas and often let down by other events.

According to producer Edward R Pressman, shooting is expected to start this year, and "things are moving ahead very aggressively, we've got an offer out to a major actor," says Pressman, tantalisingly. He also teases that this will be a very different film to the Alex Proyas / Brandon Lee original from 1994. "Steve has created a very different visual idea.

Mythology-wise, it sounds like Norrington is returning to James O'Barr's graphic novel, with Pressman promising that "The Crow itself is a character in this movie: it's not just a bird. It's got a personality... and a more active role in the story." The (talking) Crow in the book acts as both the hero Eric Draven's guide, and his harshest critic.

The famous original, directed Alex Proyas, remains a cult classic to this day and there’s been other attempts at bringing the character to the screen with a series of lesser sequels. Something tells me The Crow by Stephen Norrington could be really good. He’s even hired Avatar production designer Rob Stromberg…bet you never expected that!
