Spielberg to make pirates movie

27 August 2009

Steven Spielberg is to adapt Michael Crichton's final novel for the big screen.

Pirate Lattitudes hits the bookshops in November, but Spielberg has already read the manuscript and is hard at work getting the film ready to set sail into cinemas.

Dreamwork's CEO, Stacey Snider, said, "Without Michael knowing it, or even me knowing it, it turns out Steven always wanted to direct his own pirate film."

Wasn't Spielberg's Hook a pirate film of sorts?

Spielberg, who has worked with Crichton on several projects including Jurassic Park and ER, said, "Whenever I made a film from a Michael Crichton book or screenplay, I knew I was in good hands. Michael felt the same, and we like to think he still does."
