Ready for another slice of American Pie?
According to sources, there will be a fourth installment to the American Pie series. Apparently this new addition will follow the events of American Pie: The Wedding, and will ignore the direct to DVD sequels that followed.
However, it is being touted as a 'reboot', and Universal have nabbed Hurwitz and Schlossberg for "a new take on the franchise." Hurwitz and Schlossberg wrote Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle (known as Harold & Kumar Get The Munchies in the UK) in 2004 - evidently Universal like their style, and want it used in Pie's advantage.
This is bad news for "Harold & Kumar" fans, since it means that Hurwitz and Schlossberg won't be helming the upcoming third film in that series, "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas." Todd Strauss-Schulson, a relative newcomer to high-profile Hollywood fare, will step in to helm "Christmas" in their place. The good news is that Kal Penn, the actor who's been working in the Obama administration as the associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, will leave that job to reprise his role. Hurwitz and Schlossberg had scripted a sequel entitled A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, but writer Todd Strauss-Schulson wrote his own script, which Mandate Pictures reportedly love. No word what the concept is yet.
No deals have been made just yet regarding the returning cast. but it is reported that many of the original stars have shown a “strong interest” in the project. Not surprising, seeing as only Eugene Levy, Seann William Scott and Alyson Hannigan have anything even remotely resembling a career post-Pie.
