Polanski finishing film from jail

14 October 2009

Roman Polanski is putting the final touches to his latest movie The Ghost while he's in jail in Switzerland.

The director is currently behind bars fighting extradition charges to the US over rape charges of a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

The Polish director, who has never set foot in the country since he fled the US in 1978, was filming an adaption of Robert Harris' novel The Ghost and he's currently putting the finishing touches to the film to ensure that it premieres at the Berlin Film Fesitval early next year.

Speaking at The Times Chetenham Literature festival, Harris said, "He can make his wishes known from his cell. I don't think he can make phone calls, but he can communicate. What people think of the film is another matter. Whether the film can rise above the circumstances in which the director now finds himself I don't know.

"We will test to the upper limits the notion that there's no such thing as bad publicity."

The Ghost stars Ewan McGregor as a writer hired to ghostwrite the memoirs of a disgraced former British Prime Minister - played by Pierce Brosnan.
