Oscar winning filmmaker Brad Bird says sequel to Disney•Pixar’s The Incredibles will “feel familiar to fans of the original”

31 August 2016

12 Years since Disney•Pixar brought us one of the best superhero flicks of all time with The Incredibles, Oscar winning filmmaker Brad Bird has revealed some details for the long awaited sequel.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, The Iron Giant filmmaker said "I don't like unwrapping presents before Christmas, it's very actively moving, and we're excited about it. [We're] trying to take it in some new directions."

The Incredibles introduced us to a family of superheroes Mr Incredible, his wife Elastigirl, and their kids Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack, who are trying to lay low after the public has turned against 'Supers' and started to get very litigious.

But Mr Incredible is brought out of retirement to defeat a murderous robot and battle former fan-boy Buddy, who now goes by Syndrome.

Set for release in 2019, The Incredibles sequel doesn’t have a storyline or voice cast firmly announced, however it is hoped that Craig T Nelson and Holly Hunter as Mr and Mrs Incredible.

Bird who last brought us Disney's Tomorrowland: A World Beyond, will write and direct, in the 2004 original he also provided the voice to super-hero costumier Edna Mode.

Bird also added that it'll feel familiar to fans of the original saying "Hopefully it's the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction. I mean, that's the trick with a sequel. It's repeating yourself, without repeating yourself."
