Oscar winner Jared Leto set to Produce and star in Andy Warhol biopic from Boardwalk Empire Creator Terence Winter
Whilst he can currently be seen in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad as the iconic DC Comics villain The Joker it has been announced that Academy Award winning Actor Jared Leto will take on the role of iconic Artist Any Warhol.
Entitled Warhol, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Leto will portray the artist in the biopic and Produce alongside Michael De Luca and Boardwalk Empire Creator Terence Winter.
Based on Victor Bockris 1989 book, Warhol: The Biography, Winter will also write the screenplay.
Warhol was openly gay before such a thing was accepted, and created an art studio called The Factory that attracted swaths of New York society and turned out art ranging from silk screens to films to music, Warhol was also the manager of Lou Reed’s Velvet Underground for a while.
In his personal life, Warhol was a hypochondriac who, according to friends and acquaintances, vacillated between a cold and shallow person — sometimes quiet, sometimes the centre of attention — to a brilliant eccentric who wore wigs and even went to hairdressers to have them cut.
Leto is a chameleon that completely immerses himself into the roles he takes on, so playing Warhol seems to be the perfect role for him.
Leto is rumoured to return as The Joker in the highly anticipated Justice League from filmmaker Zack Snyder and is currently filming Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner Sequel.
