01 October 2012

We reported last week that he was one of the frontrunners, and word is Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has emerged victorious in the race to helm Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Reeves takes over from Rupert Wyatt and beat out the likes of Guillermo del Toro, Jeff Nichols, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, J Blakeson and Juan Antonio Bayona to direct the sequel to the smash hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Reeves previously wrote and directed the American remake of the Swedish hit Let the Right One In entitled Let Me In which starred Kick-Ass 2 heroine Chloe Grace Moretz and The Road's Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will see Andy serkis return to the role of Caesar and is set to hit UK screens on May 22 2014.
