Leonardo DiCaprio eyeing J. Edgar Hoover
Looks like Clint Eastwood has his eye on Martin Scorsese's regular collaborator, as Leonardo DiCaprio is in early talks to star as FBI founder J Edgar Hoover in Hoover.
He’s already worked with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, so it was really just a matter of time until the Oscar-nominated actor joined forces with the legendary Clint Eastwood. DiCaprio himself confirmed to EW that he’s met with Eastwood on the project, which would follow Hoover’s tenure - and influence at - the FBI.
No deal is yet in place, but DiCaprio is clearly engaged. “It sounds interesting to say the least,” says DiCaprio. “There’s no contract, no anything, but I’m a huge fan of Clint’s.” Dustin Lance Black (Milk) wrote the script and Brian Grazer and his Imagine Entertainment are producing.
Hoover, of course, was the complicated figure celebrated for launching the FBI and changing the face of crime-fighting in America, but who was then vilified for using the newborn agency to dig up dirt on political enemies and anyone he took a personal dislike to.
And allegations have always floated about his cross-dressing tendencies, which did little to help his reputation despite decades as the FBI’s chief.
But Leo isn’t ordering a dress just yet - the deal hasn’t been signed. “It sounds interesting to say the least,” DiCaprio tells EW. “There’s no contract, no anything, but I’m a huge fan of Clint’s.” Match made in heaven, or bad idea?
