John Carpenter to direct ‘Fangland’

06 June 2010

Master of horror John Carpenter has been away from the directors chair since 2001's hit 'Ghosts Of Mars' but it is reported that he's back in a big way, to direct the adaptation of John Marks 'Fangland'.

Since 2001, he has had the odd producing credit on remakes on some of his finest works and a couple of solid entries in HBO's Masters of Horror series along the way.

For those of you that don't know, 'Fangland' is a modern day take on the Dracula mythos, which involves US news producer Evangeline Harker heading off to Transylvania to interview arms dealing crime lord Ion Torgu. It doesn't go well for her. Because, like, he's Dracula. It's been in development since at least 2007, and at one point had Hilary Swank set to star. There's no word yet on whether that's still the case, but the script is the same one as back then, written by Mark Wheaton 'Friday The 13th' and 'The Messengers'.

So John Carpenter is going to be tackling a modern-day Dracula tale? If that doesn't scream badass I don't know what does! Sriram Das, Jason Blum and Tracy Underwood are producing.
