Hereford Films + Caffeine Nights announce joint venture Hereford Books; first title to be the Prequel to WE STILL KILL THE OLD WAY

24 August 2017

Independent film production company Hereford Films has announced the launch of Hereford Books, a joint venture with publisher Caffeine Nights. The label will release tie-in novelisations of Hereford's feature films, as well as 'expanded universe' titles of established Hereford Films properties.

The first title under Hereford Books will be WE STILL KILL THE OLD WAY: ORIGINS, a 1960s-set crime thriller chronicling the rise of the Archer gang, popularized in Hereford's cult We Still Kill the Old Way franchise. The novel will be penned by Garry Bushell and is expected to be released in 2018 to coincide with the release of the upcoming third film in the series, WE STILL DIE THE OLD WAY.

Hereford Films CEO Jonathan Sothcott commented “Having enjoyed a successful relationship with Darren Laws and Caffeine Nights on a title-by-title basis, it seemed appropriate to cement the partnership with a new label. I want readers to be able to identify a Hereford book the same way they can a Hereford film. This is a very exciting time to be involved in publishing, and I can't wait to share the thrilling story of how the Archer gang started out”.

Caffeine Nights Managing Director Darren Laws said “Hereford Books will be an exciting new imprint. Hereford Films and Caffeine Nights have a great deal in common, not least of all the love of a fantastic crime or horror story. It will be great working with Jonathan and his team to produce some brilliant new Hereford Books titles in 2018. WE STILL KILL THE OLD WAY is a great film series, and taking the characters back to their origins in the '60s presents some incredible story opportunities which I know Garry Bushell will fully realise”.

Author Garry Bushell said “I love the Archer gang in the films and what Nick Oldham did with the first novelisation, but this presents a whole new landscape, seeing the guys at the height of their powers in a vibrant, swinging and iconic capital city. We will learn what made the Archer gang respected and feared in equal measure. There is a lot of scope for dark humour and creating a bygone London that crackles with energy”.
