GLENN CLOSE is THE WIFE in First-Look image released for Berlin Silver Bear winner Björn Runge’s upcoming feature film

30 January 2017

Principal photography on The Wife, starring six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol I & II, Damages, Albert Nobbs, Dangerous Liaisons, Fatal Attraction) wrapped in mid-December. Close plays the eponymous role of Joan Castleman, alongside Jonathan Pryce (The Man Who Invented Christmas, Taboo, Game of Thrones, Listen Up Philip) as her Nobel prize-winning husband.

Directed by Berlin Silver Bear winner, Björn Runge (Daybreak, Mouth to Mouth) and adapted by Jane Anderson from the Meg Wolitzer novel of the same name, The Wife shot for seven weeks in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stockholm.

Max Irons (Woman in Gold, Terminal) joins the Castleman family as their troubled son and Christian Slater (Mr. Robot, Nymphomaniac: Vol I & II, True Romance) features as an aspiring biographer and journalist, who is determined to uncover the Castleman family secret.

The Wife, with its wise and provocative tone, hinges on a revelation for Joan Castleman, who is married to one of those men who think they own the world... but has no idea how to take care of himself or anyone else. He is also one of America's pre-eminent novelists, about to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature; and the flawlessly gracious Joan, who has spent forty years ignoring her own literary talents to fan the flames of his career, has decided she’s had enough. The Wife reveals a famous marriage that is brought to breaking point.

Supporting cast includes Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey), with Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything, The Iron Lady) and Annie Stark (Bastards, Albert Nobbs) playing the roles of young Joe and Joan.

Brokered by Embankment Films – Silver Reel, Creative Scotland, Film Väst, Chimney, the Swedish Film Institute and SF Studios finance the production. Producers are Rosalie Swedlin for Anonymous Content, Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen for Meta Film, Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford for Tempo Productions, Piodor Gustafsson for Spark Film and Television and Claudia Blümhuber for Silver Reel.
