Emma Watson is ready to to leave Hermione behind with forthcoming role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower

09 August 2012

Sought after actress Emma Watson who will forever be known as Hermione Granger from the world wide phenomenon that was the Harry Potter franchise has said that she feels ready to move beyond the role that made her a household name.

She returns to cinemas this October for Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower and revealed that her role of Sam helped her leave the brainy witch behind telling Entertainment Weekly "I started as Emma with some Hermione still left in my system, I went through the tunnel and I came out ready to start something new."

Reminiscing about her first meeting with Chbosky, who also wrote the book that the film is based on she added "At our initial meeting, he said, 'OK, not only is this going to be one of the most important parts you play, you're also going to have the summer of your life and meet some of your best friends', I thought, 'That's quite a claim. Who is this guy?' Everything he said came true."

Watson recently shot down rumours that she'd be playing Anastasia Steele in the forthcoming adaptation of E. L. James's erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower opens on October 3 and features Logan Lerman, Mae Whitman, Paul Rudd, Nina Dobrev, Kate Walsh and Two and a Half Men alumni Melanie Lynskey.

Following that she will be seen in the Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen directed The End of the World which hits UK screens next June and Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring with Kirsten Dunst which is awaiting a release date.

She is also filming Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah and will also appear as Emma Forrest in Your Voice in My Head.
