Legendary British Actor Sir John Vincent Hurt CBE has passed away at the age of 77 at his home in Norfolk. Star of the screen, Hurt will be remember for such performances in Alien, Hellboy, V for Vendetta, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Snowpiercer, the Harry Potter series as Wand Maker Mr. Ollivander and more recently as The War Doctor in Sci-Fi classic Doctor Who and many, many more.

Doctor Who (2013)

Labyrinth (TV Mini-Series 2012)

The series follows two women-medieval Alaïs Pelletier du Mas (Jessica Brown Findlay), who lives through the Crusades and Cathar massacres in medieval France, and modern-day Alice Tanner (Vanessa Kirby)-in their quest to find the Holy Grail.[1] Alice, a volunteer at a French archaeological excavation, discovers the skeletal remains of two people in a cave, as well as a labyrinth-engraved ring, which attracts the attention of unscrupulous individuals. In 1209, newly married Alaïs is living in Carcassonne, a stronghold of Cathars who have been declared heretical by the Church. Alaïs and her father are protecting three sacred books that reveal the secret of the Holy Grail from the Crusaders.

Alien (1979)

After a space merchant vessel perceives an unknown transmission as distress call, their landing on the source moon finds one of the crew attacked by a mysterious lifeform. Continuing their journey back to Earth with the attacked crew having recovered and the critter deceased, they soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun.

Sir John Hurt is survived by his wife of 12 years Anwen Rees-Myers who confirmed his passing following a battle with pancreatic cancer, saying "John was the most sublime of actors and the most gentlemanly of gentlemen with the greatest of hearts and the most generosity of spirit. He touched all our lives with joy and magic, and it will be a strange world without him."

Hurt will be remembered for his electric career on TV, film and the stage across six decades, which earned him four BAFTAs, a Golden Globe and was nominated twice for Oscars.

He also has two sons with ex-wife Joan Dalton – Alexander and Nick.
