Depp confirms Pirates of the Caribbean 4

23 February 2010

Johnny Depp is sailing to the big screen as Jack Sparrow after all.

It was feared that Depp would leave the hugely successful franchise following former Disney chief Dick Cook's dismissal from the studio. Depp told journalists late last year that he was "shocked and very sad" to hear about his friend's exit in September– adding that "there’s a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment" about the franchise.

However, Jack Sparrow fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Depp has confirmed that he is donning the swashbuckling costume once more for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

He said, "One thing that I found very reassuring was a very good conversation with Dick Cook. (He) is someone who I admire greatly and, so yeah, that helped a lot. And also, knowing that we're coming at it from a different angle at this point, with (director) Rob Marshall and a totally new take, it's a new story."

While Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley won't be returning for the fourth film, Depp insists that it won't be a Sparrow-centric movie.

"There's no Keira or Orlando in there. (But) I don't know. I don't think we'd ever throw too much Jack Sparrow in there."
