Damien Chazelle’s FIRST MAN settles for second in Oscars betting to Bradley Cooper’s A STAR IS BORN in Bookmaker’s Best Picture Odds

17 October 2018

First Man looks set to miss out on next year’s Best Picture Oscar, as A Star is Born becomes Betway’s early frontrunner to pick up the award on February 24th.

A Star is Born, Directed by Bradley Cooper, the musical drama is 11/4 to land the night’s most coveted gong and is marginally fancied over the sci-fi drama based on the 1969 moon landing, First Man, which can be backed at 3/1.

Semi-biographical drama Roma holds an outside chance of 5/1, while drama-comedies Green Book and BlacKkKlansman sit just behind at 8/1 apiece with the leading bookmaker.

Bradley Cooper also favourite for Best Actor
Cooper’s directorial debut could also see him win Best Actor (6/4), with Christian Bale as Dick Cheyney in Vice and Ryan Gosling’s Neil Armstrong portrayal next in the betting at 9/2 and 6/1 respectively.

Alfonso Cuaron tipped for Best Director success
Alfonso Cuaron picked up the award in 2014 for Gravity and is the favourite to take the golden statue once more for Roma, a drama set in 1970s Mexico, while Cooper features again in this category as a 6/1 outside shot.

Betway’s Alan Alger, said “Best Picture could come down to the wire but there’s no doubting that A Star is most people’s idea of the winner, as we make Lady Gaga’s film debut 11/4 to take home the coveted prize.

Only just behind, though, is 3/1 shot First Man, with the Damien Chazelle-directed space drama proving a hit with the critics, while Roma (5/1), BlacKkKlansman (8/1) and Green Book (8/1) make up the rest of the top five.

Elsewhere, Bradley Cooper is up for two individual awards, with Best Actor looking all but sealed at a price of 6/4 and Best Director at 6/1, behind 13/8 favourite Alfonso Cuaron for Roma.”
