Columbus brands today’s teenage actresses too thin

14 February 2010

Chris Columbus struggled to cast his new movie because the actresses he met were too skinny.

While working on his new movie Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief, the director recalled that finding Athena's daughter Annabeth was becoming a struggle.

He said, "I needed someone who really had a formidable quality as a goddess. I saw a lot of women in Los Angeles who were so thin that I don't think they had eaten in weeks.

"They could barely lift a spoon and I needed someone who could lift a sword. So in New York I found Alex(andra) Daddario."

He added, "The great thing about working with young stars is that they are so enthusiastic, so excited to be there. Veterans are great but young stars fill the set with a joy and youthful exuberance. There is no cynicism. They just want to be there and deliver a great job and I feed off that."
