CAPTAIN MARVEL Scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet Reveals how Roar Uthaug’s TOMB RAIDER Influenced the Superhero outing

02 March 2018

TOMB RAIDER hits Cinemas on March 16, and screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet has revealed how the upcoming Marvel solo outing for CAPTAIN MARVEL was influenced by Tomb Raider.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the sought after scribe explained that when she started working on the script for Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider, it was initially more of a "fun action-comedy" until the tone was changed stating "My original Lara was very sassy, and then, over the subsequent drafts as Alicia gained more creative control, she wanted it to be much more serious.

I love funny female characters, so as Tomb Raider got more serious, I got even more committed to the idea of Captain Marvel being hilarious."

Fans of the super heroine can rejoice in knowing that Robertson-Dworet will keep the film version of the character faithful to her origins explaining "Carol Danvers is one of the funniest comic book characters. She's so sassy, she's such a smartass, she won't take shit from anyone, and the comic books do an amazing job at capturing that voice, and it was important that the entire Captain Marvel creative team [kept to that].

A lot of the great Captain Marvel comic books really broke ground with Carol Danvers' voice, and that's something we want to continue with the movie."

Arriving on March 8 2019, CAPTAIN MARVEL will star Brie Larson as the titular heroine with Jude Law as Mar-Vell with Humans sought after Actress Gemma Chan joining the film as the villainous Doctor Minerva, a Kree geneticist and nemesis of the aforementioned Mar-Vell.
