Bryan Singer Won

28 March 2010

There was mixed feelings when it was announced that there was a good chance Bryan Singer wouldn't be directing X-Men: First Class after all.

Last night Deadline Hollywood mentioned that the mess has been sorted out. Bryan Singer and Fox were hoping Singer would direct. Problem is Singer has other commitments and a conflicting schedule. Bryan Singer will not be directing the movie but will be producing. This should be good news for those that loved Singer's vision on the first two X-movies and also good news for those that didn't like his directing.

The reason Singer won't be able to direct is because Fox wants to start production as soon as they can. Apparently they are pleased with the script that Jamie Moss wrote based on Singer's treatment. Fox sees the movie as the first of a new trilogy and are hoping for a 2011 release.

The good news for the studio and for us, however, is that he’s agreed with the latter studio to help oversee First Class, and whoever directs will work from a script that Singer developed, written by Jamie Moss.

Singer will be producing along side Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg. Singer is unable to direct due to his commitment to Warner Bros.' Jack the Giant Killer. First Class is said to focus on the dynamics between Xavier and Magneto along with restarting the franchise just as the recent Star Trek movie has done. Fox wants this one shooting as soon as possible and is itching to work up another mutant trilogy.

The story will focus on a young Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr, with roles for younger versions of characters like Jean Grey.

The question now is who will direct X-Men: First Class? What about X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 (hopefully they will change the title)? Do you think Singer not directing is good news? Who do you think should direct First Class?
