NORMANTON STREET’S LIFE’S REAL EP Released: 15th July 2016

Brighton based soul/hip hop group Normanton Street release a new EP, Life’s Real on 15th July through their own label QM Records. The band are Ned Archibong vocals, bass, guitar), Nicholson Davids (vocal, bass, guitar) & Phoebe Freya (vocals) with Nico Standing (drums). Their sound is lyrically focused with three distinct vocals, jazz influenced guitars, warm bass grooves and tight rhythmic drums. Their many influences include Nina Simone, Wu-Tang Clan, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, The Streets, Skepta, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis.

Nicholson and Ned have been long-term family friends since the age of 8 after meeting at a family party, and then coincidently lived on the same street in Bradford. In the 2013, the original Normanton Street members performed at The Mesmerist in Brighton where Phoebe was working. They ended up speaking about music and started writing together shortly after this fortuitous meeting of minds.

The band, have since, built up a huge live following having supported legendary rapper Talib Kweli and Mercury–nominated poet Kate Tempest. The band spent 2015 performing around the UK and overseas playing over 70 shows. This year they performed at the SXSW festival and they have also previously performed at the Love Supreme Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and the Great Escape where they return to play this year.

The band set up QM Records in 2013 to showcase the many talented musicians that Brighton has to offer. They bring local artists together to collaborate on musical projects, live shows and club nights. Since the bands formation they have worked with many musicians like Tommy Sissons and have released many side projects.
