Body of Star Trek actor’s son found

26 February 2010

Walter Koenig's son has been found dead in a Vancouver park.

The Star Trek actor, best known as Chekov in the sci-fi series, revealed his son Andrew "took his own life". He was 41.

Andrew was reported missing by his parents after he failed to return to his LA home following a trip to visit friends in Vancouver earlier this month. His body was discovered at Vancouver's Stanley Park on Thursday.

A police spokesperson believes that no one else was involved and said that the coroner office had begun their investigation.

Andrew, who had enjoyed a recurring role on eighties US show Growing Pains, suffered from depression, according to his father.

In a statement, Koenig urged those suffering from depression to seek help from family and friends.

"If you are one of those people who can't handle it any more, know people are out there who really care before you make that final decision. Talk to somebody," he said.
