Micro artist Hasan Kale recreates iconic film scenes in detailed paintings on popcorn kernels

Sky has teamed up with micro artist Hasan Kale to create seven astounding pieces of popcorn art to celebrate the iconic films coming to Sky Q in Ultra HD this December.

Each popcorn ‘Artasnack’ is inspired by modern and classic film favourites which can now be watched in more detail than ever before. From Rocky’s winning fight against Apollo Creed to Don Vito Corleone in the opening sequence of The Godfather, all of these and more can be enjoyed in four times the detail of HD for the very first time. The popcorn Artasnack designs also include scenes from the classic Ghostbusters (1984), Bridge on the River Kwai, Spider-Man 2, The Godfather, Rocky (1976) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). All available to watch on Sky Q from 1st December, along with the premiere of Hidden Figures in Ultra HD on 22nd December, there’s something for everyone to enjoy over the festive period.

Each mini masterpiece took 24 hours to create using only the finest of brushes to bring these scenes to life in microscopic form. Whether you’re a movie buff or an art connoisseur, the acute intricacies of Kale’s work showcases his impressive talent and gives a taste of what families can expect from Sky Q this December. Other movies to enjoy in Ultra HD this Christmas include Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters (2016), Lawrence of Arabia, Life, The Terminal, Hancock, Hitch and more.

Ian Lewis, Sky Cinema Group Director, said “As a nation, we are obsessed with popcorn. It’s one of our go-to snacks for a movie night marathon – and I’m not afraid to admit - a personal favourite of my own! To illustrate the finite detail of Ultra HD, we partnered with Hasan to give popcorn a movie-inspired makeover and to showcase the films we’re excited to share with families this Christmas in better quality than ever before.”

All seven films featured in the micro Artasnack collection are part of Sky Q’s Ultra HD content offering available to watch on Sky Q 2TB box with Sky Q Multiscreen subscription, Sky Cinema pack and an Ultra HD TV. Additional content that can be enjoyed in Ultra HD includes live action from Sky Sports, the latest Sky Original Productions such as Tin Star and upcoming series Britannia as well as live events and documentaries.
