Are 3D glasses a hygiene risk?

20 February 2010

Thousands of 3D glasses have been confiscated by the Italian government over fears they pose a health risk.

Italy's health ministry have already collected around 7,000 3D glasses from their cinemas, claiming that they pose hygiene problems if they aren't properly cleaned before screenings. The glasses also didn't display tags that proved users were safe from short term sight problems - reports Reuters.

Not that it seems to have done 3D sci-fi epic Avatar any harm - the most successful film of all time still tops the Italian box office chart.
