Announcing the return of RANDOM ACTS short film series to Channel 4 (curated and hosted by Zawe Ashton) from mid-August

RANDOM ACTS RETURNS TO CHANNEL 4 21st AUGUST 2017 WITH PRESENTER ZAWE ASHTON

Channel 4’s late-night, post-pub serving of the world’s craziest and most creative short films returns for a third series, this time curated and hosted by Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat, Dreams of a Life).

Featuring brand new talent and experimental work from more established names, the shorts are a heady mixture of music, animation, dance, visual art, spoken word and uncategorisable creative brilliance – a selection for which the phrase ‘only on Channel 4…’ could have been designed.

The first 30-minute episode of the six-part weekly TV show will air at midnight on Channel 4 – 21st August 2017

The Random Acts strand commissions and curates some 200 creative short films a year. The new series features an international mix of new and established artists and filmmakers including David Oyelowo (Selma) reinterpreting Shakespeare in Isle Full of Noises, jungle legend Goldie making his directorial debut with Mountains, award-winning Japanese animator Sarina Nihei showing rabbits battling in a world of deadpan violence in Rabbit’s Blood and Patrick Decile (Moonlight) starring in a Miami projects tale of gold grills and dentist’s drills.

Zawe Ashton best known as Vod in the Channel 4 series Fresh Meat, will be the new host of the TV series and will debut her own film, Lighthouse, which she wrote, directed and stars in.

The third series of the Random Acts TV show is part of a £6m, 3-year partnership between Channel 4 and Arts Council England, dedicated to finding and backing new filmmaking talent across the country and showcasing the best in creative short film.

To date, the strand has featured Riz Ahmed, Shia La Beouf, Gemma Chane, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Ai Weiwei, Tinie Tempah, Kate Tempest, Gillian Wearing, Kwes, Marina Abramovic and many more.
