Acclaimed Creed filmmaker Ryan Coogler confirmed to team with Chadwick Boseman for Marvel’s Black Panther
After weeks of rumours it has been confirmed that Creed filmmaker Ryan Coogler all helm the eagerly awaited Black Panther solo outing for Marvel Studios!
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed Coogler’s success saying “It made sense to attract a director of his caliber.”
Speaking of Black Panther, Feige added "This one is important, not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore."
Coogler is in the Oscar conversation this year for his work on the Rocky spinoff Creed and also won an Independent Spirit Award for his debut drama Fruitvale Station starring Michael B. Jordan.
Black Panther will star Chadwick Boseman and is set to hit Cinemas on February 16 2018 and speaking about the big screen adaptation of the beloved Marvel character, feign added "The movie is a big geopolitical action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T'Challa in Wakanda and what it means to be a king.”
Marvel was initially interested in Selma filmmaker Ava DuVernay for the job, though she passed on the project. According to Variety, Straight Outta Compton's F. Gary Gray was also considered, and it took some convincing to land Coogler, who initially turned down the job earlier this year before Marvel approached him again.
Boseman will make his debut as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War on April 29 this year alongside Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.
