2012 tops UK box office

18 November 2009

Epic disaster movie 2012 has stormed to the top of the UK box office.

2012, which stars John Cusack and Woody Harrelson, is the latest disaster movie by Roland Emmerich and it tells the story of the world collapsing in three years time as predicted by the Mayan calendar. It took £6.5 million to claim top spot.

Because of 2012's success, last week's number one film A Christmas Carol fell to second place - despite earning more money this week than last. It took £2.5 million.

Michael Caine's highly acclaimed British thriller Harry Brown was a brand new entry in third place after taking £1.2 million.

Pixar's latest Up and The Men Who Stare At Goats rounded out the top five.
