Dean Geyer talks about Brody Weston for the Home Entertainment release of Glee: Season 4

The Fan Carpet Chats To...

With many of the former Glee Club members now graduates, the hunt is on at William McKinley High School to find talented singers to rebuild the New Directions. It’s not goodbye to the graduates however as beloved characters Rachel and Kurt move to New York to continue their education at the New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts (NYADA), struggling to adjust to life after high school. So Glee: Season 4 still features all of your favourite characters, but also introduces great new additions to all the laughs, tears and fun-filled antics in a season that features numerous episodes that will leave you desperate for more.

Like the memorable seasons before it, Glee continues to attract big names, with starring roles from Kate Hudson as a nasty NYADA dance teacher, to Sarah Jessica Parker and Whoopi Goldberg (reprising her role as NYADA Dean Carmen Tibideaux). As well as this, the popular show’s trademark tribute episodes entertain more than ever, with this season featuring episodes dedicated to the music of Britney Spears, Grease and Stevie Wonder.

Glee Season 4 also sees the introduction of latest Glee Project winner Blake Jenner who joins the cast as Ryder Lynn, a football-playing sophomore who Finn encourages to audition for the upcoming school production of Grease.

What is it about the show that is so alluring for cast members?

It is the passion for acting and music and passion to get to be able to do both at the same time.  It is such a fun show to be involved and just because there is so much going on.  Some people complain about there being too much going on but for me, I love that.  I love going to dance rehearsals because I love learning.  I love going into the studio and recording the songs.  It is always exciting.  I’ve done a couple of other TV shows but this is definitely the one, I mean obviously for me I have a background in music so it’s great to be able to now finally do both at the same time.

You’ve done a very good job of turning the audience to like you.  You broke up a beloved couple.

Thank you, thank you.  With the finale of season three, nobody was sure whether they were together or not.  So he came in at a really interesting time where people couldn’t necessarily say that he was breaking them up and he hasn’t broken them up yet.  I have to say that it’s really up to Rachel at this point.  We’ve only seen four episodes and it’s really up to her.  She has to choose what she wants with a career and relationship stuff.  Whereas my character Brodie who knows exactly who he is, he’s been in New York for a while and puts what he wants out there.

Everybody has done an amazing job in putting on their personal stamp on their characters.  Now it’s your turn.  What do you want Brodie to represent?

Well, first of all, I’d love to have a solo song.  I would love for that to be really well received.  I mean obviously having a background in music and having auditioned for a singing part I really want people to see that side of me.  I don’t think they have yet.  I want to make my mark with a solo song and then impress people.

I love themes like moving forward in life.  Some have stayed in Ohio and some have moved on to New York.  What does moving forward mean to you?

I’m just focusing on doing justice to the TV show.  I just focus on episode by episode, doing my best job, impressing Ryan Murphy and Brad.  Who knows how long this TV show could go for?  I’m not expecting anything; I’m not expecting a next season.  I’m not expecting another five seasons.  I’m just taking it day by day right now.  But in the future, if this ends, I would love to get into film.

You’ve got an agenda.  The show has done so much for the importance of art in general.  What is it about Glee that makes this such a powerful show?

The main message of it gives hope to a lot of people.  A lot of the fans come up to, and not me necessarily, but I heard a lot of stories of fans coming up and saying to the other cast members, I went through the same thing as you.  And you helped me through that.  It is such a hopeful show unlike other shows on TV that just kind of concentrate on cop story lines or other shows are a little darker right now.  I think that’s such a great message especially for the young demographic that it reaches out to.
